J W Black one of the old settlers of Hamilton county, died in this city yesterday at the home of his son, AE Black, who resides at the corner of Bank and Wood Streets. Mr Black was born in England and was 80 year of age at the time of his death. The funeral will be held tomorrow from the home of his son at 1 o'clock pm conducted by the Rev Geo W Southwell of the Methodist Church.
Mr Black for many years lived just north of this city, later he lived on a farm 12 miles NE of here near Prairie Queen. He owned this place and was one of the best known men who ever resided in that part of the county. His death was brought about be (sic) the breaking down incident to old age and the rigors of a life of work and usefulness. Interment will occur in the Cass Center cemetery
