Irene Gardner, age 100, of Hurdland, MO, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, MO.

She was born January 30, 1912, at Knox City, MO, the daughter of Joseph Porter and Flossie Ellen Wilson Benner.

She was united in marriage to Alfred Gardner on November 30, 1935, at Kirksville, MO and he preceded her in death on July 21, 1984. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother John C. Benner and two nieces Mary K. Emdia and Donna Leah Ficher.

Surviving are one nephew Dr. James Gardner and wife Wilma of Kirksville, MO, great nieces and nephews, Lynn Hinkle of Kansas City, MO, Cindy Lewellen and husband Chuck of Kirksville, MO, Mike Gardner and wife Cindy of Columbia, MO, David Gardner and wife Joy of Lee's Summit, MO, and Kelly Gardner and wife Kim of St. Charles, MO, several great great nieces and nephews and several cousins.

Irene graduated from Knox City High School. She was a housewife and homemaker. She and her husband were engaged in farming in the Hurdland community all their married life. She was a member of the Hurdland Baptist Church, passed member of the Hurdland Rebecca Lodge and a 76 year member of the Green Acres F.C.E. Irene enjoyed attending Edina High School basketball games, and spending time with family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Reverend Robert Shobe will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Hurdland I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Music will be provided by Susie Shobe, soloist and Linda Baker, pianist. Musical selections will be "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art".

Casket bearers will be Mike Gardner, Kelly Gardner, David Gardner, Rex Sykes, Mike Gelbach, and Larry Sykes.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 24, 2012, from 1 p.m. till time of services at 2 p.m. in the Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the Knox County Nursing Home and may be left at or mailed to Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Edina, MO 63537.
