Son of Robert Howard and Jessie Bernice (Crocker) Gibbs. He married Helen Okerberg in 1946 and had four children, Dennis, Kathleen, Karen and Diane. Don later married Barbara (Tuttle) Smith in 1971 and resided in Henry, Ill., until they moved to Sun City West, Ariz., in 1994.

Don is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Dennis; daughter, Karen Yates; and sister, Bernice (Richard) Forney. Also mourning his loss are stepchildren, Steven (Stacey) Smith, Bradley (Mary) Smith and Sharon (Donald) Goebel; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

His parents; his first wife, Helen; daughters, Kathleen and Diane; and sister, Wilma Doyle, preceded him in death.

Don graduated from Sparland High School in 1943, farmed in Marshall County, Ill., owned and operated Gibbs Grocery and was a salesperson for Country Companies Insurance in Henry.
HENRY - Donald Robert Gibbs, 89, of Sun City West, Ariz., formerly of Henry, passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, in Sun City West, Ariz.
Don was born Dec. 16, 1925, in Sparland, Ill., to Robert Howard and Jessie Bernice (Crocker) Gibbs. He married Helen Okerberg in 1946 and had four children, Dennis, Kathleen, Karen and Diane. Don later married Barbara (Tuttle) Smith in 1971 and resided in Henry, Ill., until they moved to Sun City West, Ariz., in 1994.
Don is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Dennis; daughter, Karen Yates; and sister, Bernice (Richard) Forney. Also mourning his loss are stepchildren, Steven (Stacey) Smith, Bradley (Mary) Smith and Sharon (Donald) Goebel; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was member of Saratoga and Henry United Methodist Churches and then Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West, Ariz., and served on the Henry Grade School Board and the Marshall-Putnam Fair Board.
He had a variety of interests and hobbies, including raising and training horses, golf and traveling.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at 1 p.m. at the Henry United Methodist Church. The Rev. Rick Kerr will officiate. Burial will follow in Henry Cemetery in Henry. A reception will follow the interment at the Henry United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) or to the Marshall-Putnam Fair Association.
Calvert & Johnson Memorial Homes in Henry is in charge of arrangements.
Honorary pallbearers are Leon Mattingly, Clarence Kelly, Alvin Longman, Rich Forney, Ron Doyle, Randy Newton and Rowdy Yates.
