Cletus James Hockensmith, 78, Hanover, died Monday at 11:05 p.m. at Hanover Hospital, where he was a patient two days. He was a son of the late James T and Anna Small Hockensmith.
Mr. Hockensmith was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Holy Name Society and was affiliated with McSherrystown Lodge Order of Moose; McSherrystown and Hanover, Home Association, McSherrystown Fire company and Adams County Fire Men's Association. His wife Mrs. Mary Strausbaugh Hockensmith preceded him in death.
Surviving are Ten children; Sophia and Paul Hockensmith, Hanover; Marcellus and Clair Hockensmith, both at home; S/Sgt William Hockensmith, Merecerd, Calif.; S/Sgt Cyril Hockensmith with the 72nd Headquarters in Africa; Mrs. Edward Hetrick and Mrs. Edward Krichten both of McSherrystown, Sister Mary Conisa Mercycrest Convent., Harrisburg and Mrs. Helena Dettry, Norfolk Va.; 13 grandchildren; four great grandchildren and two brothers, John Hockensmith, New Oxford and Basil Hockensmith, Hanover.
Funeral services Thursday at 8:30 a.m. with prayers at the Walter Funeral Home, McSherrystown, followed by a requiem Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's with his pastor Rt. Rev. Msgr Charles E. Park, Celebrant. Interment in the Annunciation Cemetery, McSherrystown.
