Elmer Houtkooper, 73, of Sioux Center died Thursday, June 12, in a Sioux City hospital.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, in Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center. The Rev. Dennis Wilcox officiated. Burial was in Memory Gardens in Sioux Center.
Houtkooper was born October 30, 1912, in Corsica, South Dakota. He married Julia Menning June 19, 1935, in Harrison, South Dakota. They moved to the Hull area in 1935 where he farmed until 1963 when they moved into Sioux Center. She died November 30,1982.
He married Irene Punt August 3, 1984, in Nashua.
Houtkooper was a member of Central Reformed Church where he served as a deacon. He also served as a member of the building committee for the present structure.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Virgil of Hull; two daughters, Elaine Doorenbos of Le Mars and Vera Dieck of Hull; a brother, John of Aurora Center, South Dakota; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
