"AN AGED CITIZEN GONE TO REST

Alexander, son of Alexander and Hannah Campbell Brown, was born in Johnstown, Pa., Feb. 2, 1825. He was the 3rd child of a family of eleven children, nine sons and two daughters, three of whom survive him, to-wit: William Brown and Mrs. Margaret Black, of Martinsburg, Pa., and Mrs. Jane McGregor, of Kansas.

Father Brown was married to Catherine Davis Denehey May 25, 1846. To this union six children were born, all of whom were present, to-wit: William, of Linton, Mrs. Nellie Thompson and Alexander, of Terre Haute; George, of Center Point; Frank, of Danville, Ills., and Harry, of Terre Haute. Soon after Mr. Brown's marriage he moved to Kentucky, where he resided until the civil war broke out, when, on account of his outspoken patriotism, he had to flee to Ohio, where he resided until he moved to Indiana about 30 years ago.

In early life Father Brown embraced religion and joined the M.E. church in which he served as class leader for many years. After moving to Indiana he identified himself with the Christian church in which he lived until removed (unreadable) to the church to the church Triumphant, which occurred at his son George's in Center Point, January 10, 1900, being 74 years, 10 months and 10 days of age.

Father Brown was a man of strong will force, indomnitable courage and wonderful powers of endurance. He was a kind and doting husband, and affectionate father, a kind neighbor and good citizen. His last hours were full of hope and cheer which is a great comfort to his children, who were near his couch as the spirit took its flight to God who gave it.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. W.M. Givens of the U.B. church and the remains were laid to rest in the Bowling Green cemetery by the side of his companion, who died Oct. 19, 1898."
