At the age of 2, he moved with his family from Dows to a farm near Klemme, Iowa. Glen attended the country school near his home in German Twp. (now Liberty) as a young boy. Later he attended the Klemme High School for one year.

After his marriage to Valeria Koerner in 1935, they rented a house from her father, Albert, for $10.50 a month. They lived there for 12 years before they bought their own home, which happened to have been built by Valeria's great-grandfather, Christian Lau. They had 7 children, and the family enjoyed taking trips together.

Sport had been employed as a cable splicer for the Koerner's telephone company before the marriage. By that time he was employed by the Klemme elevator, taking over the job his father had held before he died in 1934. He was mentioned as being an assistant manager at the elevator in Gaylon's birth record. In Collyn's record it states that he was the manager., as well as in Vicki's. He was mentioned as being a farmer in 1950 in Royce's birth record. Later Sport worked for the Klemme Hardware as a plumber (as stated in Nyla's birth record) and serviceman, but the owner eventually passed away and the store closed. Sport worked for himself thereafter, as a repair and serviceman, working out of the home until he passed away at the age of 59, as was stated in his death records. He had also been a member of the Klemme Volunteer Fire Department and had also served on the Klemme school board.

He and Valeria had 7 children.
