On Nov 27,1861,at the young age of 15,Charles enlisted for service in the Civil War.Three months later,Feb 12,1862,he joined Company B,7th Vermont infantry.Charles's older brother,Jackson V Parker served as a 2nd Lieutenant and later Captain in the same Company B with him.In their first year of service Jackson and Charles authored several letters togeather that are in a colletion at the Vermont Historical Society Library.The letters were sent to their parents between 1862 and 1865,while they were living with their sister,Sarah Parker Willoughby ,in Newport,Minnesota and are full of news of their daily life away from home and on the war frount.Charles was discharged with a disability on Oct 8,1862.In May of 1863 he went to live with his father Ruel Parker and sister Sarah Parker Willoughby in Newport,Minnesota.He later would work in the Real Estate Business there.Charles went on to serve in numerous Washington County,Minnesota offices.On Nov,6,1894 he was elected to the the Minnesota State House of Represnatives in their 29th legislative session for the County of Washington.He served on the following Committees:Education,Grain and Warehouse,Roads and Bridges State Prison.On Nov 6,1896 he was re-elected for the 30th Legislative session.His committees were:Reformatory Grain and Warehouse,Insurance,Railroads and Soldiers Home Temperance Legislation.
