The granddaughter of German immigrants, Barbara Ruth Kienzle-Stewart, long-time resident of Bronx, New York, died on Friday, January 31, 1997 after a fourteen month valiant battle with lung cancer. She passed away after 10 days of admission to Calvary Hospital located at 1740 Eastchester Road, Bronx, New York. She was 70 years old.
The beloved daughter of Arthur and Mathilda Holzwarth-Kienzle, Barbara was born on Monday, November 1, 1926 in New York, New York at home and baptized into the Lutheran faith. She was the second of Arthur and Mathilda's three daughters.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, her husband Dr. Leslie Elias Stewart (Srebnik) of Bronx, New York, her devoted son Arthur Stewart, of Yonkers, New York and caring daughter Dorothy Margaret Murphy-Dodge Whitlock Alvarez of Mesa, Arizona.
Bobby, as she was affectionately known to her siblings, was the sister of the late Dorothy Margaret Kienzle, who died at the young age of 13, in New York City on November 6, 1938 and the late John Joseph Wenger who died in New York on September 25, 1993.
She was survived by her loving children, Dorian, Clair, Hazel, Evelyn and Chance and by her sisters, Mathilda Eleanor Kienzle-Morrison of Oakland Maine, Louise Olga Buckingham-Morello of Waterville, Maine and Elizabeth as well as a brother, Raymond Wenger of Napa, California.
Calling hours for family and friends were held at John F.X. McKeon & Son Funeral Home on Perry Avenue in the Bronx.
On Tuesday, February 4, 1997, Barbara was interred at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings on the Hudson, New York, beside her husband Leslie and cherished son Arthur.
