Dorothy Margaret Kienzle died at New York Presbyterian Hospital on 168th Street, New York, New York of a streptococcus infection in the heart on Sunday, November 6, 1938 after falling ill with an infection in her tooth.

In 1938, the antibiotic penicillin was not yet available to cure infectious diseases such as Dorothy's bacterial tooth infection. The infection traveled to Dorothy's heart and she succumbed to her illness. Dorothy was only 13 years old.

Four years after Dorothy's death, the first civilian patient was successfully treated with penicillin in March of 1942.

Young Dorothy was born the first daughter Arthur Herman Kienzle and Mathilda Holzwarth-Kienzle, both of German decent and native New Yorkers, on Monday, February 23, 1925 in New York, New York.

She was survived by her beloved parents and her three loving sisters, Louise Olga Buckingham, age 14, Barbara Ruth Kienzle, age 12 and Mathilda Eleanor Kienzle age 10.

Dorothy was predeceased by her German immigrant paternal grandparents William James Kienzle of New York, New York who died in 1928, Dorothea Vetter-Kienzle of New York, New York, who died in 1935, as well as her maternal German immigrant grandparents Heinrich a/k/a Herman Holzwarth of New York, New York, who died in 1914, and Louisa Richter-Holzwarth of New York, New York who died in 1931.

A funeral viewing for Dorothy was held at her parents' Bronx apartment in New York and interment followed three days later at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, New York on Wednesday, November 9, 1938.

Dorothy's birth date according to NYC birth records was February 25, 1925, not February 23, 1925 As indicated on her gravestone.

Dorothy was buried in a grave one row behind her paternal grandparents Heinrich and Dorothea Vetter-Kienzle.

In 1956, when her father Arthur Kienzle passed away, he was buried with his cherished Dorothy.

Finally in1989, Dorothy's beloved younger sister Barbara Ruth Kienzle-Stewart put a stone on her grave. Barbara picked the stone out with her daughter Clair from Minozzi and Sons monument dealers.

Barbara told her daughter Clair before her sister Dorothea died she was going around saying Bobby's birthday's, coming up Bobby's birthday.

Barbara's birthday was November 1, 1936. Her sister Dorothea died five days after her birthday.
