He was killed, almost instantly, by a falling tree where he was cutting timber on the land of Mrs. Effie Sellars. He was a native of and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, SC. Funeral services were conducted at the New Pleasant Baptist Church with interment in the Church Cemetery. Survivors included: his wife, Mrs. Maudie Robbins McCraw, two son, Billy Dean and Robert Allen McCraw, two daughters, Doris and Peggy McCraw, his mother, Mrs. D. D. McCraw, two brothers, Palmer and Clyde McCraw, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Revells, Mrs. Bertie Price, and Miss Lillie Delores McCraw. He was 37 years of age at his demise.
