"From Wikipedia "Hampshire County is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 23,964. Its county seat is Romney, West Virginia's oldest town. The county was created by the Virginia General Assembly in 1754, from parts of Frederick and Augusta Counties and is the state's oldest county." I point out that the county was created by the Virginia General Assembly. As West Virginia wasn't a state until 1863, Solomon wasn't born there, he was born in VA as the Census evidence affirms. In the 1850 Federal Census of District 24, Hampshire County, Virginia Solomon Gard is listed in the household of his father David Gard as being 3 years old and born in VA. "
