----------------------------------------------------
According to family records Elizabeth was born Feb. 7, 1840 to John and Susan Letitia (Yardley) Boyd, probably in Bucks County Pennsylvania. Around 1860 she lived with her aunt and uncle, Horatio N. and Mary Ann Bostwick. They had a mercantile store in Bristol, Bucks, Pennsylvania. She continued to live with her aunt after her uncle died in 1868. In the 1880s, when she was in her 30's, she served at a missionary as school teacher in Hankou, Wuhan Shigu, Hubei, China. It is here that she died at the age of 42. Her remains are buried in Wuhan, Hubel, China at the "Old International Cemetery".
Her parents placed this cenotaph inscription on the same obelisk that marks their graves, as a memorial to her. On the fourth side there is a memorial to Annie Boyd, another unmarried sister.
