Corporal, Company C, 112th Illinois Infantry. Enlisted August 9, 1862; discharged June 20, 1865.

The "History of Henry County" Published by in Chicago by H.F. Kett Co. in 1877. includes a short biographical sketch of John Boyd. The sketch states John was a farmer and a Teamster in Cambridge, he was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Nov 6, 1836 and lived there for about 24 years coming to Henry County, Illinois in 1852. He served in the army, Co. C. 125h Reg. Illinois Infantry, served in a number of severe battles and was honorably discharge. He married Miss Emily W. Welton, Nov. 25, 1858, born April 17, 1836. At the time this information was published they had three children 2 girls and one boy, but had lost three children. They went on to have one more son in 1879 making a total of seven children. Children of John & Emily: Lucy Edwards Boyd (Secoy), 1859-1915; Wilber W. Boyd, 1861-1861; Henry B Boyd, 1863-1864; Frank Marvin Boyd, Sr., 1866-1893; Susie L. Boyd 1868-1875; Edith Adele Boyd (Meyer), 1875-1933; Arthur Courtland Boyd, 1879-1957.
