James Albert Brown, well-known retired farmer of Cooter died November 23, 1960 in a Lindsay California, Hospital. Mr. Brown was visiting relatives in California at the time of his death, He was 85 years, 4 months and 15 days of age.
Mr. Brown came to Steele in 1904 and worked as a depot agent for Frisco Railroad until 1918 when he became engaged in farming. He farmed near here until 1921 when the family moved to Cooter where he lived until his death. He was a native of Parsons, Tennessee.
In 1906 he was married to Dovie Burns. To this union two sons were born. She died in 1909.
Mr. Brown was married to Phina Holly in 1914 and to this union were born eight children, three of whom died in infancy. Four sons and one daughter survived. Mr. Brown died in 1940.
Survivors include six sons: Delphin of San Diego, Calif., Gaston of Risco, Mo., Holly Mac and James Brown of Los Angeles, Calif., Jerry and Woodrow Brown of Cooter; one daughter, Mrs. John P. Smith of Farmington, New Mexico; four brothers, John Brown, Steele, Charles of Wildersville, Tenn., Frank of Cleveland, Ohio, and Alvin of Strathmore, Calif.; three sisters, Lona Dodd of Bells, Tenn.; Mary Elizabeth Boyd of Parsons, Tenn., and Ida Gains of Unita, Okla.; 17 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Cooter on November 27 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. John Sennett conducted services assisted by Rev. Roy W. Bevan. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, German Funeral Home in charge.
Pallbearers were Paul Cooper, Lawrence Coleman, Joe Burton, Homer Waters, Paul Lynn and Homer Wilson.
