Obituary:
Mrs. Sarah Doel Rogers, widow of George Rogers, died Thursday, the 9th inst., at 5 p.m., at her home, corner west Main and Hanford streets, in this city. She has been in failing health for two years but her recent illness was of about two weeks' duration, during which she suffered greatly from heart trouble—the immediate cause of her death.
Mrs. Rogers was born in Trowbridge, England, October 26th, 1824, and in 1844 was married to George Rogers. They removed to America in 1848 and became residents of this city about forty years ago. Mr. Rogers died in 1885, since which time Mrs. Rogers has lived where she died, her declining years being tenderly cared for by her daughter, Miss Josephine Rogers.
Mrs. Rogers is survived by the following children: William Clifford, Frank Stanley, Miss Josephine Louise, Mrs. Alex R. Skinner, all of this city, and Mrs. Frank W. Palen, of Tekoman, Neb.; also by twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Several children have already preceded her to the other world.
Mrs. Rogers came of Old School Baptist stock, her father and two brothers being ministers of that faith, but she was a faithful attendant of the Second Presbyterian Church, of this city, so long as health permitted.
She was a woman of singular sweetness of nature, and though of a retiring and domestic disposition—devoted to her family—none could be brought into contact with her without being impressed by the serenity of her nature and the sunshine which her influence always imparted to every gathering when she was present.
One who knew and loved her, desired to bear testimony to her as one whose life embodied in large degree the graces and virtues of ideal womanhood and motherhood, making her loved, esteemed and mourned not only by her family but by all who knew her.
Middletown Daily Times (Middletown, NY), March 10, 1905.
