Beyer, Retired Santa Fe Agent, Dies Here

Services were held for J. E. Beyer, 87, long time Hereford resident, Tuesday afternoon in First Methodist Church. The Rev. Herschel L. Thurston, church pastor, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Eugene Naugle.

Beyer, who lived at 431 N. McKinley St., died Sunday morning in Deaf Smith County Hospital after a brief final illness, although he had been in failing health for some time.

Joe E. Beyer was born February 8, 1877 in Plymouth, Indiana and he married Miss Emma Baulding November 17, 1898 in Sterling, Kansas. They moved to Hereford from Mooreland, Oklahoma in 1922, and from that date he was general agent here for the Santa Fe railroad until his retirement in 1946. He was a member of First Methodist Church and of Masonic lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Emma, of the home; two Sons, P. L., Amarillo, Texas, and J. E.., Hutchinson, Kansas; one daughter, Mrs. Harold Hicks, Little Rock, Arkansas; one brother John Beyer, Wichita, Kansas; and two sisters Josephine Bruer, Sterling, Kansas and Mayme Felt, Los Angeles, California; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.



Bearers at the services were J. T. Parsons, Jesse W. Stanford, S. O. Wilson, R. L. Dowell, J. C. McCracken and Charles Hood.



Interment was in West Park Cemetery under direction of Gililland Funeral home.
