Funeral services were held Feb 7 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids. The Rev. Paul Hoffman officiated. Entombment will be in Forest Hill Mausoleum.
Valerie was born Jul 4, 1917, in Stevens Point, to John and Laura (Ostrowski) Karner. She attended St. Joseph School and Emerson High School in Stevens Point. Valerie married Donald R Zwicke on Nov 7, 1941, at St. Joseph's Church in Stevens Point. He was killed in action on Jul 17, 1944, in Saint Lo, France, during World War II. Valerie then married Franklin A Zwicke on Nov 3, 1945, at SS Peter & Paul Church in Wisconsin Rapids. He died Apr 26, 2000.
Valerie was a homemaker and at one time was employed at F.W. Woolworth and the Gamble Store in Wisconsin Rapids. She was a member of SS Peter & Paul Church, SS Peter & Paul Church PCCW, the VFW Auxiliary, the DAV Auxiliary and AARP in Wisconsin Rapids.
Valerie is survived by three children, Dorothy Canino of East Brunswick, NJ, Thomas (Jolene) Zwicke of Wisconsin Rapids, and Carol (Jerry) Zurfluh of Port Edwards; four grandchildren, Susan (Dan) Donoghue, Dennis (Jodee) Zurfluh, David (Jeni) Zurfluh and Daniel (Kelly) Zurfluh; eight great-grandchildren, Connor and Caleigh Donoghue, Samantha and Eric Zurfluh, Kevin and Emily Zurfluh and MacLay and Nathan Zurfluh; one brother, John Karner Jr; and one sister, Ruth McDowell.
Valerie was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one brother, William; and two sisters, Mildred and Delores.
