Born in England in 1601, Mary Pierce is the daughter of William Pierce (Captain of the Guard) and Jane Phippen Pierce. She married Reverend Samuel Maycock in Virginia. Records for the "Massacre of 1622, do not name Mary Maycock or her infant daughter named Sarah. (Vol. 3, Records of the Virginia Company). This daughter had been born only a few weeks before the Massacre and the fact that she and her mother were not among those listed as killed was evidently due to the fact that Mrs. Maycock probably died in child-birth and little Sarah was being cared for by friends in Jamestown. The census of 1624 shows that little Sarah was born in Virginia, that she was two years of age at the time of the census, and was then living in the home of Captain Roger Smith.
