REV. ALFRED MAYER
Fremont – Funeral mass for the Rev. Alfred Mayer 63, pastor of St. Ann's parish, was celebrated this afternoon at the church with Bishop John A. Donovan as principal celebrant.
The Rev. Mayer died Friday morning at Fremont Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Shelby, Ohio, and was ordained a priest for the diocese of Toledo on May 1, 1938. From December, 1962 to September, 1965, the Rev. Mayer served as pastor of St. Boniface parish in Oak Harbor. In 1968, he was appointed to a three-year term on the diocesan school board by Bishop Donovan.
Survivors include two brothers, Francis of Shelby and Richland County Common Pleas Judge James J. of Mansfield; two sisters, Miss Margaret Mayer of Shelby and Mrs. Lee Ignat of Wakeman.
Ochs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, Shelby. (News Herald, p.5 – Port Clinton, Ohio – 11 August 1975)
