Omer Herman Jones, JR., age 80, went to be with his Lord Jesus on the 9th of June 2012. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 4p.m. at the Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with Tony Nickel pastor of Cross Timbers Church and James C. Hill of Aledo officiating. Burial will follow at Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Mr. Jones was born December 9, 1931 in Stigler, Oklahoma to Omer H. Jones Sr. and Annie Walker. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenda Jones; children, Steve Jones and his wife Patti, Randy Jones and his wife Joan, and Kyle Jones and his wife Tammy; brother, Harold Hamilton. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Kellum and husband Desley, Jackie Jones, Jeremiah Jones, Zane Jones, Skyler Jones, Zephan Jones, Zach Jones and Faith Jones, 2 great-grandchildren Corbin Kellum and Cy Kellum, many nieces and nephews and special friend of the family Cindy Collins.
Most of his childhood and school days were spent in Graham, Texas. After graduating from high school in 1950 he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Germany for 3 years. Returning to Graham after his military service, he met the love of his life-Glenda June Sowers of Newcastle, Texas. They were married 5 months later on October 15, 1954.
Herman's career as a Property Tax Manager for Gulf Oil and Chevron took him and his family to Big Spring, Odessa, Roswell, Chicago, Kansas City and Houston. He was very active in his career and served on numerous committees and boards in the Oil and Gas industry. He developed many lifelong friendships through the years and was always involved in activities centered around his sons and his local church where he was an ordained deacon. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and for many years participated in the Living Christmas Tree. His sense of humor and practical jokes always kept things lively, especially on camping and hunting trips. His hobbies over the years included church league basketball, company bowling leagues, church group camping and canoe trips to the Guadalupe River, golfing, and lots of hunting and fishing trips with his sons and friends. His retirement years were spent living in a lake house with a dock on Lake Graham where he could fish anytime he wanted.
Herman and Glenda also enjoyed taking mission trips with their local church in Graham, including trips to Brazil, Spain, Mexico, Colorado and Michigan where they ministered in the schools and local churches.
The family will receive friends at Morrison Funeral Home, 700 Oak Street, Graham, Texas 76450 on Thursday, June 14, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
