Respected Citizen Dies After Brief Illness
Ellridge Gerry Burtt was born in New York state June 23, 1853. When but four years old, his parents moved to Michigan where he lived for nearly forty years. In 1873 he married Miss Emina Williams, to whom one son was born, both of whom survive him. In 1896 he and his wife came to Glendive where they have resided ever since.
The deceased was named after his great uncle, Ellridge Gerry, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and later vice president of the United States under James Madison.
Elldridge Gerry Burtt was a man of the strictest integrity, exceedingly industrious and of simple and frugal habits. His life was an open book, without mar or blemish. He leavers the legacy of an honorable life and cherished memories to his mourning family to whom he was a kind father and a loving husband.
His untimely death came as a surprise and a shock to the family and the community for the fatal illness lasted but five days when he passed away at 9:30 p.m. Friday evening, April 23, at his home here in the city.
The funeral was held from the Methodist church at 2:30 p.m. on the 26th. The remains were laid to rest in the Glendive cemetery.
