Mr. Arthur was born in the Glenwood Community of Pittsylvania County on December 23, 1924 a son of the late A.B. Arthur and Sarah Staples Arthur. He had lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. Mr. Arthur was a co-owner of the former Green Acres Grill for over 20 years and until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church where he was very active as long as his health permitted. Mr. Arthur served with the U.S. Marine Corps. During W.W. II and he was a Life Time member of the American Disabled Veteran's.

On April 9, 1954 Mr. Arthur married Lillie Crowder Arthur who survives of the residence.

Mr. Arthur is also survived by one daughter Phyllis A.. Alfier and husband Charles of Virginia Beach, VA and one brother Walter Arthur of California.

He was predeceased by six brothers Henry Arthur, Tom Arthur, William Arthur, Yancey Arthur, Calvin Arthur and Harry Arthur, three sisters Catherine A. Miller, Mary A. Wilson and Linda A. Morton.
