Andrew J. Nutter, 82, Dies in Local Hospital
Andrew J. Nutter, 82, Belt, died Sunday in a local hospital where he had been a patient about two weeks.
Nutter was born April 12, 1883, in Indiana, and came with his family to Wisconsin, where they lived for some time. He came to Montana in 1908 and homesteaded southwest of Gildford. He married the former Bertha Edwards Feb. 21, 1938, in Fort Benton.
He operated a bar at Choteau from 1938 until 1942, when they moved to Great Falls, where they operated the Fifth Ave. Grocery at Fifth Avenue and Eighth Street until 1945. He was semi-retired until moving to Belt in 1952, although he operated the Nutter Grocery at 1122 6th Ave. N. for a time before selling it in 1951. In 1952 he purchased the Belt Bar, and operated it until retiring six years ago because of failing health.
Survivors include the widow at Belt; sisters, Mrs. Minnie Manley of Rice Lake, Wis., and Mrs. Alta Welkos of Havre; brother, Samuel Nutter of Rice Lake, Wis.; foster son, Ernest Nutter of Portland, and step-son, John M. Edwards of Great Falls.
