Henry Ludwig Schmidt
A telephone message was received here Sunday, late in the afternoon that, Henry Schmidt had died in San Angelo that morning. His brothers, Theo, Louis, and Benno, driven by Alex Ayers, at once left for that place to bring the remains to Mason for interment. They arrived there Monday at noon and returning reach Mason at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. It is learned that deceased had recently been in bad health and had several hemorrhages two weeks ago, but was thought to be well again. On the morning of his death he had been out in town and had gone to his boarding house about 10 o'clock to change clothes, when he was suddenly seized with a hemorrhage and died in a few minutes. He was born In Fredericksburg July 9, 1865, and was therefore nearly 35 years of age at the time of his death. His father, Ludwig Schmidt, died March 16, 1877. His mother, whose maiden name was Mary Mosel, survives him. He was baptized and confirmed in the the Lutheran church at Fredericksburg. He was married July 8, 1894 to Miss Minnie Gimble in San Antonio, who formerly resided in Mason. They settled in Kerrville, where they resided until the death of his wife, April 12, 1896. From that time he was not permanently located until a little over a year ago when he located in San Angelo. In the call for troops for the Spanish war he enlisted in the Fourth Texas, and after serving a few months was mustered out.
The funeral took place from the residence of Theo. Schmidt, Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. C. Ziehe of the Lutheran church. The pall bears were, O.H. Mebus, H.B. Gibbs, Chas. Bierschwale, Herbert Zork, R.E. Crawford, Otto Edwards.
Besides the aged mother who survives, deceased leaves 3 sisters and a brother in Fredericksburg and 5 brothers in Mason, a twin sister being Mrs. Charles Schwarz of Fredericksburg. All of them have the sympathy of many friends in their sorrow.
