My mom told me this story only once. It was a great source of pain and heartache for her. She told me that the morning of my grandpa's death she had asked him to drive her and her sister to the bus stop at the bottom of the hill. They lived at the top of a steep hill and didn't want to walk down that morning because it was either raining or threatening to rain. Of course, my grandfather agreed to drive my mom and her sister down to the bus stop and when he went out of the house to go get into the car to drive them down - a bee stung him. He had been stung by bees before and had never had an allergic reaction but this time he had a sudden and extreme allergic reaction. My grandmother tried to drive him to the hospital in time but he died of anaphylactic shock before they ever arrived. My mother blamed herself for his death because she was the one who had asked her dad to drive them to the bus stop and she felt such a deep sense of guilt and heartache over his death. It breaks my heart to remember how she sobbed as she told this story and how deep her feelings of pain and regret were. My mother was such a sweet and loving person. I know she loved her dad so very much and suffered the rest of her life by blaming herself for his death.
