Born and raised in Rutland County, Vermont where he engaged in business as a cloth manufacturer. He later established a woolen mill in Lancaster, Ohio. He subsequently operated saw, grist and woolen mills in Delaware, Ohio. His son, George T. King succeeded his father in the manufacturing business. His grandson, George W., was born on the farm of his grandfather.
George W. went on to be a well-known inventor and manufacturer in the Marion community, being involved with Huber Manufacturing, the Marion Steam Shovel Company, various banks, the Marion County Telephone Company, and many other interests.
