Elvin L. "Jack" Purser, 86, died Saturday in a local hospital.
The son of Ray Purser and Beatrice (Casey) Purser was born in Kingston on Sept. 18, 1914. He grew up and attended school in Stigler.
Purser was a longtime civil servant at Tinker Air Force Base. He retired after 34 years of service.
He served in World War II in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1942 to 1944. He earned many decorations, including a Purple Heart.
After being discharged, he moved to Harrah. He moved to Shawnee in 1966 and had lived here since.
Purser was a member of Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Shawnee.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers: his twin, Melvin Purser, and Harvey Purser; and one sister, Geneva Purser.
Survivors include his daughter, Jo Ann Bray of Choctaw; grandson and spouse, Michael and Karen Allen of Newalla; one great-grandson, Brandon Allen of Newalla; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilmus and Jo Purser of Paoli, and Douglas and Madge Purser of Ada; one sister, Vida Pickett of Maysville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. Doyle Loveland will officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
