Grace D. Preston

Grace D. Preston passed away on June 4, 2012, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Mrs. Preston, a resident of Henderson Harbor, NY, was born May 12, 1920 in Groton, NY., the daughter of Charles and Florence Robinson DeCamp. She married Roger Preston on August 23, 1943 who predeceased her in death.

She is survived by sons Roger Jr. (Diana) of Margate, FL and Richard (Peggy)of Peoria, AZ, grandchildren Jeremy (Casey) and Christopher (Rebecca), great grandchildren Grace, Kate, Collin and Reese. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a 1943 graduate of Crouse Memorial School of Nursing. She obtained her Bachelor's degree and Master's Degree from Syracuse University. She spent many years in the Fayetteville-Manlius School District retiring from Mott Rd Elementary in 1980.

Grace was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star and held the honor of the 50 Plus Membership with Chapter 144-Onondaga Star where she was Matron and also District Grand Matron.

After retirement both Grace and Rog loved to travel with their motorhome. In many trips around the county, they met and made many friends and had many fond memories. They were founding members of the Thousand Island Voyagers motorhome club. Grace was also a National Director to FMCA.

As an avid gardener, seamstress and quilter Grace was able to touch many with the beauty of her work.

Her family will hold a celebration of life memorial service at 1 p.m. on July 29, 2012 at Henderson Community Hall, 8939 NY Rte 178 in Henderson, NY 13650. Private internment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Angelman Syndrome Foundation www.angelman.org/teamcollin in honor of Grace's great-grandson, Colin Preston or to a charity of your choice.
