Joseph James Cummings was the 2nd son and 3rd of 6 children born to Katrina Vaitkunas and her second husband, Joseph Kaminchaitis.
He lived with his family at 2116 Price Street, Scranton, Pa. until he married Anna T. Koziol on 20 May 1937 in Scranton.
He worked in construction.
He and his wife had four children:
1. Joann Cummings (married John "Chic" Ceresi) and they had four children
2. Joseph Cummings who was born prematurely and sadly died after being a day old.
3. Maryann Cummings (who married Willard Murray) and they had one daughter
4. Robert "Bobby" Cummings (who married Joann Blackwell)
According to his death certificate and obituary (The Times Tribune, June 2, 1964, page 17), death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. Sadly, his brother, John, died a short time after him on August 20, 1964.
