Hazel L. Swedlund, 90, of Bowmont, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1992, at a Nampa care center. Hazel was born July 17, 1901, at Gem, Kansas to Chester and Anna Gurwell. At a young age she moved to Caldwell where she was reared and educated. She married Carl "Shorty" Swedlund Nov. 19, 1919, at Caldwell, and they made their home in Bowmont where she had resided since. Carl died in August 1970. Hazel was an active member of the Melba Rebekah Lodge for 66 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Marie Young of Bowmont; her daughter and son-in-law, LaVera and Harold Basey of Bowmont; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, a brother and two sisters.
