COUNTY RESIDENT NEARLY 80 YEARS
Marie Bartu, daughter of Peter and Marie (Krejdl) Bartu, was born on a farm near Milligan, Neb., on January 27, 1873. September 9, 1893, she was united in marriage to Frank Elznic of Milligan. Mr. and Mrs. Elznic spent all their married life on the farm. After the death of her husband in 1937, Mrs. Elznic made her home in Milligan, and later in Geneva. The past five years she resided at the Roseland Nursing home, where she received the best of tender and loving care until the time of her passing.. During the past two years her health failed and the last year she was confined to her bed. October 9, 1952, she departed from this life at the age of 79 years, 8 months, and 13 yrs. She was baptized in infancy in St. Wenceslaus church at Milligan and took an active part in its activities the earlier years of her life.
She leaves to mourn her passing, four sons, Frank R., Anton, William and James V.; seven daughters, Mrs. John Stofer, Mrs. Joe Cudly, Mrs. James Vojta, Mrs. Ben Fussell, Mrs. Vencil Zenisek, Mrs. Lumir Nemeskal, Mrs. Charles Stofer; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Bicek, and Mrs. Charles Kovanda, one brother, Joseph Bartu, 24 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Elznic was a member of the Royal Neighbors lodge at the time of her death. She was a devoted wife and mother, ever thinking of her family ahead of her own needs. She made many friends and was always ready to offer a helping hand or word of encouragement to everyone she knew.
