Fred A. Pope, 96, of Rossville, GA passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2012.

He was born on December 7, 1915 in Walker County, GA, to the late William and Temperance Pope.

Mr. Pope served in the United States Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant. Over the years he was employed in Chattanooga, TN with the Home Stores, Sears and Combustion. Mr. Pope was the owner of Pope Refrigeration.

He was a member of Newnan Springs United Methodist Church for over 75 years.

Preceded in death by first wife, Mary Lou Boleman Pope; several brothers and sisters.

Survived by his wife, Verlene Pope, of Rossville; daughter, Patsy Putnam and her husband, Larry Putnam, of East Ridge, TN; granddaughter, Michele Wilkins and her husband, Mike; grandson, Michael Putnam and his wife, Ruth; three great-grandchildren, Allison, Michaela and Megan; two stepsons, Stan Dean and his wife, Dianna and Steve Choate and his wife, Ann, all of Ringgold, GA; three stepgrandchildren.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Hospice of Chattanooga for their loving and caring service.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Lowery officiating.

Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today, May 31, 2012, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Newnan Springs United Methodist Church, 78 Monanow Road, Rossville, GA 30741, or to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
