Edith Isabel McClure, daughter of Harmon and Gertie Kohl Sankey, was born at Republic, Kansas, on February 2, 1914. She passed from this life Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville, Kansas. She was 87 years of age. Edith graduated from Republic High School and took her normal training for teaching. She taught one year at Beauchamp country school. Edith married Clifford E. McClure in May of 1933 and to this union two children, Mike and Barbara were born. They lived on the family farm until moving into Republic in 1950. She lived her entire life in the Republic community. Edith was active in the Ladies Library Club and several bridge groups. She enjoyed playing the piano and growing daylilies. Edith was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clifford in 1993; a great grandson; two brothers and two sisters. She will be forever remembered by her daughter Barbara Spencer and husband Kenneth of Greenwood, Indiana; son Michael and wife Esther of Republic, Kansas; three grandchildren; her brother Harold Sankey and wife Vesta of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; many other relatives and a community of friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 21, 2001 at Tibbetts-Fischer Chapel in Belleville, Kansas with Pastor Joyce Beam officiating. Burial was in Prairie Rose Cemetery south of Republic, Kansas.
