She was born on March 20, 1924 to Henry H. and Hattie (Nuelk) Ehlers Jr. in Milwaukee County. She grew up on the family farm in Saukville and later worked at Smith Brothers in Port Washington. She graduated in 1942 from Port Washington School.
On Oct. 6, 1945 Delores married Norman H. Spiel at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Washington. The couple worked together on their farm on Big Cedar Lake. Delores enjoyed gardening, sewing and baking cookies. She was a lifelong member of the Cedar Lake Homemakers Club and Peace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Norman; three sons, Gary (Janis), Marc and Terry; four dear granddaughters, Jody King, Jamie Leoni, Greta McCarthy and Alyssa Spiel; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Tamms; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Ehlers and Violet Spiel.
She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Harvey and son, Monty, in 1949.
Funeral Services will be Friday, Dec. 30, 2005 at noon at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend with Rev. Aaron Steinbrenner officiating.
Interment will take place in Diefenbach Cemetery of Slinger.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at noon.
Memorials are appreciated to Cedar Community Hospice.
