Libertyville Independent, Thursday, December 19, 1918

The funeral of the late George W. Cleveland took place from the undertaking parlors of J. A. Treptow, Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock. The services were conducted by Libertyville lodge No. 492, A. F. & A. Masons, assisted by the Rev. Earl Morgan, pastor of the Presbyterian church of this city. The interment was in Lakeside cemetery.

Er. Cleveland was a veteran locomotive engineer, having worked for years in the service of the Chicago & Northwestern railway, during which time he made his home in Freeport and Chicago. In 1881 he went west and entered the service of the Southern Pacific, working until 1895, when he retired on account of advanced years.

He was born in the year 1829 and at the time of his death was aged 89 years. During his early life he was married, his wife having preceded him to the grave 50 years ago. Surviving him is one son, Frank G. Cleveland, who with his family reside on Newberry avenue, this city. On October 15th last, he suffered an injury, from the results of which he died December 5, at his home in Springfield, Ore. His remains arrived in Libertyville at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon. He was also a member of the Independent Order o Odd Fellows.
