Martin Flickinger, an aged and highly respected resident of Newport, died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Keim, Wednesday of last week. He was one of the few remaining veterans of the Civil War. He was a shoemaker by trade and he and his brother, Will Flickinger, conducted a shoe store in Newport many years ago. Mr. Flickinger was a staunch Democrat and took a deep interest in politics. He was an honest, intelligent gentleman and was respected and esteemed by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held at the Keim home Saturday afternoon, and burial was in Newport cemetery.
