Julius "Doug" Tennison, 74, of Gladwin, died Friday, July 24, 1998 at his home. Born Feb. 26, 1924 in Boonville, Miss., he was the son of John and Ola Belue Tennison. Doug married Viola Shannon, July 3, 1957 in Davison. He retired from General Motors and moved to Gladwin to operate the Union 76 Service Station for 12 years. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 7303. Doug enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events and could be seen at all of them.

Besides his wife he is survived by four daughters, Onee-Barlow Tennison and husband Greg Barlow of Ironwood, Debra Kay Stoneburner of Columbia, Md., Vickie Sue and husband Tony Page of Williamston, and Susan M. and husband Kari Farling of Gladwin; one brother, Tremon and wife Archie Lee of Continental, Ohio; and one sister, Juanita Loveless of Carbonville, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ester Phifer, Verlon Sanders, and Erma Chase; and two brothers, Hermon and J. C. Tennison.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Sisson Funeral Home in Gladwin with Rev. Donald L Roberts officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery in Gladwin. Graveside services were under the auspices of VFW Post 7303. A VFW memorial was held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
