Lewis Gainey 70 died at his home near Hartsville Tuesday night following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock today (Thursday) from the chapel of the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral home. Dr. Davis M. Sanders will officiate. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.

Bearers will be Boyce Beasley, Richard Privette, Clarence Lee Stogner, Tom Gainey, Harold Gainey, Charles McInville, Wilye McInville and Felix Beasley.

Mr. Gainey was born in Florence County, and spent most of his life near Hartsville where he was engaged in farming. He was a son of the late Jackson and Sarah Garrison Gainey. Mr. Gainey lived on the Darlington-Hartsville By-Pass four miles south of Hartsville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife who before marriage was Ruth McInville. Also surviving are three daughters: Mrs. William F. (Hallie) Madden, Winston-Salem, N.C., Mrs. R.E. (Miriam) Reaves, Myrtle Beach, and Mrs. William M. (Betty) Griggs, Hartsville; five sons: Lewis Maurice (Buck) Gainey, Spartanburg, Bryce and Claude C. Gainey, Hartsville, Glenn H. Gainey, Columbia and R. Lyndal Gainey, Darlington, 27 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers: Lowell Gainey, Hartsville, and Leslie Gainey, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; two sisters: Mrs. Clarence Stogner, Hartsville and Mrs. Barney B. Thames, Denmark.
