Betty Katherine Joshlin was born in Ruston, Louisiana on January 16, 1926, one of ten children in the home of Howard and Gertrude (Williamson) Colvin. Born a true red head, Betty matured into a pretty young lady with a fiery spirit. With a no non-sense frame of mind, one always knew where she stood on any subject. The Colvin family moved from Louisiana and settled in Little Dixie,near Cotton Plant. In time Betty and other family members moved to Visalia, California. She married and soon had two little boys to fill her time. Through circumstances of life, she and the boys traveled back to Arkansas, settling in Brinkley. The spirited red head met handsome Robert Glyn Joshlin, fresh out of the Army, and romance began. They were married on December 1, 1950 and in time their family grew to include four boys. Being a mother of 6 boys took stamina, and each son will vouch that she meant what she said and always carried through with her intention. For a time she worked at Wagner Electric and then operated a daycare in her home for 20 years. Through time she gave nearly a hundred children a home for the day, filled with good food and loving care. Years later many would stop by for a visit with their second Mom. A lady of many talents, she enjoyed gardening, canning, embroidery painting, growing beautiful flowers and going to garage sales. Many will testify of her good cooking and work as an accomplished seamstress. Betty was a 57 year member of Brinkley Missionary Baptist Church. In recent years her health had become delicate and she spent more quiet times in her home. In the early morning hours of Monday, January 30, 2012, Betty passed away at the Baptist Medical Center in Forrest City. May family and friends find comfort in knowing that our loved one is now resting peacefully in the arms of her Saviour, Jesus Christ. Preceding her in death were her parents, Howard & Gertrude Colvin, husband, Glyn Joshlin, six brothers, Prentis, Leon, Howard, Jewel, Dan and Van, one sister, LaNell.
