Elizabeth Wagar
GRAFTON - Elizabeth "Betty" Wagar, 91, of South Road, Grafton, went to be with the Lord in Heaven on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at her residence in the loving comfort and care of her family.
Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Harold R. and Florence Smith Gavitt. She attended Troy Public Schools and was active in the 4-H in Grafton. In 1938, she married Earl Wagar and lived in Grafton where she was a homemaker and mother until her children were older. At that time, she became a clerk at the Grafton Post Office and then became its Postmaster. She later went to work at RPI as the Supervisor of the Mail Services for 13 and a half years until her retirement in 1981.
She and Earl were avid motorcycle and snowmobile enthusiasts, belonging to the Tri-State Motorcycle Club and the Grafton Snowmobile Club. They also enjoyed camping. Mrs. Wagar was a member of the Grafton Baptist Church and hosted a home Bible study every Wednesday evening.
She is survived by two sons and their wives: [withheld], daughter-inlaw [withheld], a sister [withheld], a brother and his wife, [withheld], five other sisters-in-law, [withheld], 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband Earl L. Wagar, eldest son, Eugene F. Wagar, three brothers, William, Harold and Arthur Gavitt.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday afternoon, January 22, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. at the Grafton Baptist Church,11 Owen Rd., Grafton, NY 12082. Calling hours will be held at the Church Saturday afternoon from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Private interment will be held in Eagle Mills Cemetery.
The family desires, that in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Wagar be made to the Grafton Baptist Church, P.O. Box 24, Grafton, NY 12082. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the to the Morris-Stebbins-Miner & Sanvidge Funeral Home, 312 Hoosick Street, Troy, New York 12180 (518) 272-3930.
