Harriett spent her entire life in orphans homes and institutions along with three of her siblings, Arthur, Retta and Mary, after her father was arrested for child neglect in 1908. She was born the daughter of Stephen James Golenor and Esther Catherine Baum. Sister Mary was living with Peter and Grace Mutch in 1910 census in Muncie.
