Mathias Propson Chilton Times March 17, 1928

At an early hour on Thursday morning, March 15, 1928, Mathias Propson died at the home of his son, John, in Kloten, town of Stockbridge at the advanced age of 87 years. News of his death caused deep sorrow among relatives and neighbors, by whom she was loved and respected. His illness was only of a week's duration.
The deceased was born in Rittersdorf, Germany, Oct. 6th, 1840 and in 1873 came to America locating in Chicago where he was married to Barbara Vien in 1874. The following year they located at Lomira, Dodge County, where he followed farming. In 1878 he moved to Calumet County and purchased the farm on which he lived until death claimed him. In 1920 he turned the homestead over to his son, John, with whom he made his home. His wife died thirty-one years ago.
Mr. Propson was an honest, upright man, whose word could always be depended upon. He drew to him friends in large numbers and his home was always open to welcome them. He was a staunch member of the Catholic Church and one who did his full share in building and maintaining St. Elizabeth's church of which he was a regular attendant.
He is survived by six sons, Peter of Flint, Mich., August of Chilton town, Math of Fond du Lac, Albert of New Holstein, John on the homestead, Joseph of Stockbridge town, two daughters, Mrs. John Gilles of Stockbridge and Mrs. Jacob Veit of Chilton town and thirty-five grandchildren.
The funeral was held today from St. Elizabeth's church at Kloten, Rev. Fr. Joseph Rausch celebrating Requiem Mass.
