Mary Ann Charleston was born around 1824 in Tennessee according to census records. She married Seth Phinney in Scotland County, Missouri on August 3, 1841. 1850 census shows them living in Miller, Scotland County, Missouri. According to census records, all their children were born there. Mary Ann and Seth had 6 children: Isaac Clark Phinney,Rebecca Emma Phinney Stinnett, Melvina Phinney Baxter, John (JACK) Martin Phinney, Mary (FRANK) Frances Phinney Peel, and Robert Henry Phinney

It appears that when Robert was just a baby they moved to Pilot Point, Texas. Her oldest son Isaac joined the confederacy in Texas around 1862. The 1860 census has not been found, yet. The 1870 census is very faded, but it shows them as living in Pilot Point, Denton County, Texas. Their 1880 census has not been found and the assumption is that they both died between 1870 and 1880.

Family researchers are of the opinion that their farm and possibly graves were lost when the Lake Ray Roberts was filled.
