John M "Jack" Phinney was born April 11, 1849 (family records conflict with the headstone) to Seth and Mary Ann Charleston Phinney in Miller, Scotland Co., Missouri. His siblings were Isaac Clark Phinney (FAG M#: 12763258), Melvina Phinney Baxter (FAG M#: 23769379) Emma Rebecca Phinney Stinnett (FAG M#: 38603221), and Robert Henry Phinney (FAG M#: 12763323). He married Norvella (spellings vary) Tennessee Walker by 1879 and had the following children: Mont Isaac Phinney (buried in Roosevelt Cem in Roosevelt, OK it is believed with no headstone), Katherine Phinney Diew (FAG M#: 5297048), Ida Phinney (we do not know where she is but we believe she died in Oklahoma), Hattie May Phinney married Thomas L Battles (FAGM# 23764602), Alma "Annie" Phinney (we are still looking for her but think she died in Reno, Nevada), Barney Phinney (FAGM#: 23700569), Arthur "Bill" Phinney (FAGM#: 24507977) and Frank Phinney (FAGM#: 24508042). It is believed that he alternately was a stockman and a farmer and came up from the Denton Co., Texas area to Kiowa Co., OK on the Chisholm Trail around 1900. His grandson, Rex, says that John was sitting on the porch and asked Bill to get him a glass of milk; when Bill returned with the milk, John had passed away. Please contact me for information.
