Ernest Walter Gothier, son of Louie and Maude Dubel Gothier was born on June 30, 1890, at Wolfdale, Iowa. He began his education at Wolfdale and completed it at Elk Point where his family moved. In 1910 he moved to Nebraska for a short time, returning to Elk Point where he started farming.
He was United in marriage to Annie Ryan on January 17, 1912 at Elk Point and continued to farm there until 1921. He then moved to Moody County, farming West of Flandreau. On January 28, 1942 his wife passed away and in 1947 he moved into Flandreau to make his home.
He was united in marriage to Catherine Braun on May 7, 1946.
He continued to keep up his interest in farming. He was a member of the Catholic Church and the Knight of Columbus.
He is survived by his widow Catherine; five children, Arthur Braun, Flandreau, Annie, Mrs. Einer Sorenson, Flandreau, Alfred Braun, Flandreau; Delores, Mrs. Chris Schmidt, Centralia, Illinois, Irma, Mrs. Vernon Doyle, Flandreau; for sisters, Mrs. Ethel Bergman, Hardington, Nebraska, Mrs. Marie Grindvold, Circle, Montana, Mrs. Margaret Williams , Orofina, Idaho, Mrs. Mabel Armstrong, Flandreau; four brothers Paul Gothier, Hardington, Nebraska, Louie Gothier, San Francisco, California, Earl Gothier, Belleview, Florida, and Gerald Gothier, Loveland, Colorado; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Annie, one brother and one sister.
