When he was 11, his parents purchased a farm in Lincoln Township, northeast of Lakota, where he helped farm until 1917 when his parents moved to Lakota.
That same year he was married to Minnie Seibold and continued farming the home place until 1957 when he retired. His grandson Rodney Olthoff farmed the farm.
He enjoyed horses for farming and riding, raised hogs and always milked about 15 cows.
Minnie helped with the farm, raised many chickens, and had a large garden.They both loved to fish when time was available.
They retired to Lakota in 1957 where Minnie died in 1967 and Rufus in 1985.

Faye(Mrs. Loren Sachs) of Oelwein, Iowa
Norma(Mrs. All Dudding) of Buffalo Center, Iowa
