Born on Sept. 9, 1941, in Turbett Township, Juniata County, he is the son of Mary I. (Snyder) Portzline, of Mifflintown and the late Thomas A. Filler. His wife Mary L. (Campbell) Filler, survives.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by: his children, Thomas E. Filler, Joseph P. Filler and his wife, Jayme, all of Baltimore, Md., Timothy A. Filler and his wife, Donna, of Allentown, Jeffrey Scot Filler, of Carlisle, Robert W. C. Filler, of Hartford, Conn., Tami Long and her husband, Tom, of Mifflintown; stepchildren, Ronald J. Smith Jr., of Mifflintown, Sara S. Swailes and her husband, Steve, of McClure; a sister, Sue Portzline Kauffman and her husband, Harold, of Mifflintown; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; also he leaves behind his beloved dog Louisey.
Three brothers, Charles Filler, Robert Portzline and William Portzline, preceded him in death.
Thomas retired in 2003 with 33 years of service from Armstrong Cabinet Corp., Thompsontown.
Tom was a social member of the Brooklyn Fire Co., Lewistown, an avid NASCAR fan who was devoted to Dale Earnhardt Sr., and he loved the Dallas Cowboys.
When he was younger, he enjoyed hunting and playing softball.
There will be no viewing, however the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
A private memorial service and interment will be held with Pastor Charles Stump officiating.
