The many friends of Mr. Berry Gwin were greatly shocked at noon to-day to learn of his sudden death from heart disease, at his home on East Market street, a few minutes before. . . Berry Gwin was born in this county in 1814 on the river road about six miles below the city and except a few years passed in Lanesville, Harrison county, had resided in this city continuously ever since his birth. . . He was a soldier of the Mexican war having enlisted in his young manhood, and was a participant in many of the bloody battles of that historic epoch, bearing himself in every instance with courage and manliness. . .
