Marlin R. Hankey, 83, of Estero, Fla., passed away on April 23, 2012, at Joanne's House of Hope Hospice, Bonita Springs, Fla. He was born on May 3, 1928, in Gettysburg, the son of Roy R. and Ruth C. (Harbaugh) Hankey.

A resident of the Fort Myers area for the past 20 years, he previously lived in Harrisburg. Marty was trained through the G.I. Bill, after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, as a mechanist at the Bethlehem Steel plant in Steelton. He also worked at the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply depot, and retired from the Commonwealth of Pa.'s Department of Education. He was both a Philadelphia Athletics and Phillies fan and was also a fan of the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed Ocean City, Md., and his retirement in Florida.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Grace Hankey, and his siblings, Robert, Carl, Anna Mae and Janet Hartman.

He is survived by his children, Robert M. Hankey, Diane (Frank) Kobi and Donald E. Hankey; his two grandsons, Matthew (Christina) and David M. (Danielle) Kobi; his great-grandson, Garrett Kobi and his siblings. From a large Gettysburg family he is survived by Ralph Hankey, Helen Perry, Bill Hankey, Barbara McGrew, Jim Hankey, Ron Hankey, Joyce Hankey and Larry Hankey.

A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
